For a week in September, Rowena Martinich undertook a residency back at her old school – St Catherines. During her time at the school, Martinich created a work for the windows of the school cafeteria. In this process, the artist mentored the students in painting, and they worked collaboratively to install the large-scale installation. The artwork allowed coloured light to spill through the painted surface and into the interior space of the cafeteria where students would sit. It also activated the exterior of the building and the school grounds with vibrant colour and geometric forms. At the conclusion of the week, Martinich was invited to be the guest speaker and open the student art exhibition, as well as presented student awards for excellence.
