1 / 3Public Art & Murals
Enquire about a public art commissionMartinich's public art practice transforms architectural environments through large-scale, site-responsive compositions. Her murals and installations, whether painted or fabricate, are created to shift the energy of a space, bringing movement, optimism and emotional resonance to civic and commercial settings. Her gestural visual language responds to the architecture, scale, materiality and community context of each project. Her public-art practice is underpinned by a Master of Arts in Art in Public Space (RMIT).
Her public works range from vibrant wall-based murals and façade interventions to printed vinyls, glass-based applications and high-durability fabrications. She has delivered projects for schools, councils, hospitals, retail precincts, hospitality venues and transport hubs, often integrating community consultation and environmental cues into the design. Each project is managed with clarity and care, from concept development and stakeholder engagement to fabrication, access logistics and installation. Recent commissions include large-scale murals for Rydges Melbourne, QT Melbourne and Ibis Styles Sydney Central, alongside works for institutions such as the National Gallery of Victoria and the Royal Exhibition Buildings, and workplaces including Deloitte and Mirvac. She carries $20 million in public liability insurance and holds the permits required for elevated and access equipment, so even complex installations proceed without hold-ups.
Martinich understands the pressures facing project managers, developers and designers, from regulatory approvals to tight timelines and varied stakeholders. Her role is to make public art delivery seamless, professional and inspiring, translating complexity into clarity, and bringing stakeholders along for the journey. Every project balances artistic intent with logistical precision and long-term value.

From intimate commissions to monumental public artworks, the duo thrive on collaboration, working closely with clients to develop distinctive, site responsive works that tell stories, celebrate place and transform spaces.
The Commissioning Process
Creating bespoke commissioned artworks is a large area of Rowena's practice. You may be looking to commission a painting on canvas, a large-scale installation or corporate work, a mural, or have a collaborative concept that you would like to explore.
Every commission is quoted individually and secured with a non-refundable deposit, typically 30-50%. Allow one to three months for completion. Framing, delivery, installation and worldwide shipping can all be arranged.
Briefing
Every commission starts with a conversation: palette, scale, and the space itself. Sharing images of the site, its finishes and any reference works all helps.
On larger architectural projects, Rowena can join at the design stage, so the work is integrated into the concept more holistically. This stage wraps up with a quotation.
Concept & confirmation
Rowena keeps an open dialogue throughout. For larger projects, before contracting, she provides a full outline including concept mock-ups, timeline, budget and staged payments.
A deposit then secures your place in the schedule of works before painting begins.
Creation
Murals and facades are painted on site, where Rowena is fully insured and holds the Elevated Work Permits for scissor and boom lifts.
Studio paintings follow the current schedule of works, usually one to three months.
Completion
On completion, Rowena forwards images of the finished work; full payment is required before release.
Framing, delivery, hanging and worldwide shipping can all be arranged.
“Working with Rowena has been such a wonderful and collaborative experience. She took the time to understand our brand and vision while bringing her own distinctive creativity and artistic expertise to the project. Her artwork gave the finished planner collection a warmth, originality and character that we simply couldn’t have achieved on our own. The final result felt beautifully aligned with Mrs Edgar, and the entire process was thoughtful, easy and genuinely enjoyable. Most importantly, Rowena’s artwork has been incredibly well loved by our community.”
“Working with Rowena and Geoffrey was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. They took the time to listen to our ideas and created a mural that perfectly represents our family while bringing so much colour and life to our backyard. Before they even began painting, they provided several mock-up designs that allowed us to visualise exactly how the finished mural would look. The finished mural is a stunning piece of art that we enjoy every single day. Even years later, it looks just as vibrant and beautiful as the day it was painted. We highly recommend Rowena and Geoffrey to anyone looking for talented artists who truly care about creating something special.”
“It was an easy choice selecting Rowena to work with. Her ability to think in colour, her professionalism and positive attitude made it a no brainer. The work we wanted was massive and physically demanding — not once did we doubt Rowena's ability to achieve the project on time and in budget.”
“Rowena brought extraordinary energy and expertise to our artist‑in‑residence program. She encouraged students to take creative risks, embrace the messy, exploratory nature of artmaking, and see themselves as emerging practitioners. Her openness in sharing what life as a working artist looks like, the discipline, the experimentation, the joy, gave our students an authentic window into contemporary practice. I highly recommend Rowena for any school or organisation seeking an artist who inspires, challenges, and elevates young creatives.”
“I personally love Rowena's vision and her ability to work with different mediums — glass, metal, canvas. Rowena is an absolute professional, and working with her you watch an idea come to life.”
“Rowena and Geoffrey brought a thoughtful and highly collaborative approach to Spectra for Melbourne Design Week, taking the time to understand what makes Rydges Melbourne unique and creating an installation that reflected the hotel's identity and sense of place. Their creative insight, professionalism and attention to detail ensured the project was delivered to an exceptional standard. Created for Melbourne Design Week, Spectra transformed our lobby into an immersive, brand-led design experience for our guests. The installation featured curated paintings, bespoke rugs and striking entrance glass decals, creating a cohesive journey from the moment guests arrived. It was exceptionally well received by both guests and visitors, showcasing the impact thoughtful design can have within a hospitality environment.”
“Aside from falling in love with her work, Rowena's experience with large scaled pieces and their integration into architecture gave us confidence in the ability for our vision to be realised.”
“I have known Rowena since 2011 and have followed her work closely, working with her as an art consultant on a few occasions. She is not only creatively distinct, she is easy to work with as a professional, understanding client needs, communicating clearly and delivering within the brief and on time. Our work on EastHK was most notable, where we created a full concept across the guest rooms from one commissioned piece. Her creative process was transparent and the client was able to see a likeness of their commission before she created the final work, meaning all parties were clear on deliverables before any time was wasted. I am always happy to work with Rowena and hope to again in the future. ”
“We feel so lucky to have had Rowena and Geoffrey create such a special piece for our home. The whole process was seamless and enjoyable, and I loved collaborating with Rowena throughout the design journey. The finished piece is absolutely stunning and truly anchors our home—we couldn't love it more. ”
