Taking inspiration from the colours and landscape of Spring Creek as it winds its way toward Torquay Point, this collaborative work merges abstraction and representation to evoke the layered beauty of place. Among the shadowy greens of the Moonah trees—with their sinuous trunks and mirrored reflections in the creek’s green waters—brilliant white Egrets often appear, catching the light and echoing the curves of their environment.

The form of the birds and their elegant movements are echoed in the expressive brushwork of Rowena Martinich’s layered composition. The sweeping gestures, punctuated with light and energy, mirror the curves of the egrets’ necks and the meandering flow of the creek itself. Geoffrey Carran’s rendering of the pair brings focus and poise, their connection suggesting both a natural harmony and a personal one.

Together, the work reflects a synergy—between landscape and movement, representation and abstraction, and between us as artists and life partners. It conveys more than either of us could achieve alone: a mood, a rhythm, and a quiet romance embedded in the natural world.
