Working as a dyptich with Dusk Light, this painting draws from the parched beauty of late summer on the Surf Coast—where ochre grasses catch the last warmth of the sun, and long shadows fall across the land. Ochre Trace captures a fleeting moment of stillness and intensity, when colour flares and fades across the horizon. Gestural sweeps of pigment reflect the raw texture of dry earth, while translucent overlays suggest the lingering softness of light before nightfall.

Installed as part of the Spectra exhibition at Rydges Melbourne for Melbourne Design Week, the painting offers a moment of stillness within the hotel’s dynamic urban setting. In contrast to the city’s pace, Ochre Trace introduces a subtle, grounding presence—infusing the interior with the warmth and atmosphere of the Surf Coast landscape.
