Rowena Martinich partnered with fellow artist, husband and longtime collaborator to create ‘Adornment,’ a large-scale public mural in the Little India Precinct of Dandenong.

Both Rowena Martinich and Geoffrey Carran have had a long-standing fascination with the visual language of India. The pair recently took the opportunity to travel and experience first hand the rich tapestry of Indian culture. Exploring the palaces, marketplaces and workshops throughout Rhajastan really consolidated this love affair with India’s flair for colour and pattern.

Measuring 4.5 metres high x 16 metres long, this mural injects life, colour and dynamism to the Indian precinct of Dandenong. It also directly honours the traders in this area who are known for their traditional fashions and textiles, embodying some of the many textile motifs and designs found in the local stores.

Commissioned by the City of Greater Dandenong as part of a broader State Government plan of the precinct, this mural re-invigorates this site and provides a landmark work for local traders and visitors.
